Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy:
Alternative Treatment for Children with Autism and Aphasia.

Hyperbaric Oxygen & Autism Treatment |
|
Hyberbaric oxygen therapy is not the cure for autism. It may be, however, a way of ensuring the most complete recovery possible. Hyperbaric oxygen takes the stress off all the cells in the body by providing oxygen, a necessary component of every chemical and healing process, and allows the body to recover. Although the brain makes up less than 2% of the bodys physical mass, about 20-30% of the body's consumption of oxygen occurs within the brain andspinal cord. These areas are extremely sensitive and responsive to oxygen increases and support. HBOT is generally considered the simplest, safest and most effective way known in the field of medicine to provide substantial extra oxygen support when needed.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on
|
||
1. Can Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Cure Autism?
Answer: HBOT is not a miracle cure for autism. While HBOT will revitalize brain cells, the cells will still have to be "trained" to do what they were intended to do (through therapy) and ongoing metabolic support (nutrition and/or vitamin supplementation). What is known is that increasing the supply of oxygen to the brain stimulates neural growth and repair. HBOT is meant to augment your child's current therapy, not replace it. Through the clinical research conducted on Autism at our center over the past years have shown improvements from the use of hyperbaric oxygen. Please note that the degree of improvement varies depending on each child’s medical history.
2. Some HBOT Clinics Use Portable Hyperbaric Chambers (Also Known As Soft Shell Chamber) Without Needing to Put On an Oxygen Hood or Mask. Does That Mean It Is Safer And The Results Are More Effective Than A Multi Place (Steel) Chamber?
Answer: On the contrary, please be aware that there is a difference between a portable hyperbaric chamber (also known as “soft shell” or “bag” chamber) and a multi-place chamber (also called a steel chamber). A portal hyperbaric chamber typically only "dives" to ten feet or less and use only air or maximum 24% oxygen. There is a significant difference in cognitive improvement when 100% oxygen is provided under pressure to the required depth (which for autism is 1.5 -1.8 ATA). For other conditions like immune related disorders and musculoskeletal injuries the pressure required is often much higher like from 2 ATA – 2.5 ATA.
3. How Many HBOT Treatments Would You Recommend For Autism?
Answer: It depends on each child's medical history. Please call us to schedule an evaluation for HBOT recommendation.
4. Will My Child Be Alone In The Chamber?
Answer: Customer's safety is always our priority. You will be under the watchful eye of an experienced and trained attendant who will accompany you into the chamber to give further assistance. You will be in the chamber with other recipients at the same time.
5. How Is Richmond Hyperbaric Health Center Different From Other Clinics? |
||
Answer: Our Management team has extensive knowledge in the HBOT field and many years experience in Hyperbaric Medicine. Our Medical Director Dr. Michel Jacquin (E.N.T) and our Technical Director Gerard Lay were members of Jacque Cousteau’s team in the Calypso Expedition. Richmond Hyperbaric have been involved in 2 clinical studies on children with Brain Injured conditions like Cerebral Palsy, Autism, and Pain syndromes like Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD).
6. How Much Does The HBOT Treatment Costs? |
||
Answer: In the United States and Canada, HBO fees can cost up to US$1,500 per session. Our belief is everyone who needs HBO should have access to a chamber at an affordable price. We charge CAD$125 for 60 minutes of Oxygen. (Total session time is about 90 minutes). There is a volume discount for bookings over 20 treatments, please check our price list.
7. Who Can I Contact If I Have More Questions or Need More information? |
||
Answer: Please click FAQs section for more information. If you are still unable to locate what you need, please don't hesitate to contact us by email or call 604-277-8608 or Toll Free 1-888-373-0888 directly. |
